Resolving the design and optimization of large volume wide range metallurgical slag system of typical special steel, including theories and processes of inclusions control, quality control and process optimization of continuous casting billet, and rolling process and optimization of stabilized production technology.

Investigate the high-end special steel products urgently needed by the nation, strategic emerging industries and national defense industry, achieving breakthroughs in the bottlenecks in the technology of high-end special steel.

Institute of Marine Steel

Mainly focusing on the design theory, key preparation technology and application performance related to high performance steel materials for marine platforms, offshore facilities, cross-sea bridges, submarine pipelines, polar facilities, special ships and so on.

Institute of Advanced Metallic Materials

To resolve the challenges of national clean energy and construction of key traditional energy projects, modern transportation equipment and key facilities and other urgent needs of the country, IAMM researches and develops high-performance key metallic materials that are urgently needed in the fields of nuclear power generation (including high-entropy alloys), wind/water/fire power generation (including nickel-based alloys), hydrogen energy/oil and gas storage and transportation, coal mining, new energy automobiles (electrotechnical steels/aluminum alloys), light-weighted automobiles, high-speed railroads, special transportation equipment, and construction machinery, etc., providing theoretical and technological support for the resolution of the key materials used in the country's major projects.

Institute of Materials Design and Optimization

Conducting research on the interdisciplinary of Materials Genetic Engineering (MGE) and integrated computational materials engineering (ICME) technology, focusing on the demand for shortening the R&D cycle and lowering the R&D cost for the independent R&D of materials urgently needed by the national major projects.

Achieving the synergistic and optimized design of composition-process-organization-property of urgently needed materials, building a service platform for supporting materials design, and establishing a high-level materials design collaborative and innovative research team with cross-disciplinaries, domestic leading and international advanced capabilities.

Institute of Material Inspection and Intelligent Manufacturing

Focusing on the advance technologies in the field of intelligent manufacturing in the metallurgical industry to enhance theoretical, methodological and applied research, and to provide enterprises with overall solutions with planning and implementation. The service includes material testing and intelligent perception, industrial big data and quality control, and production operation optimization. Achieving innovation in machinery, logistics, measurement and control, computer and other specialties by interdisciplinary collaboration.
